Local Towns and Markets

Two of the biggest local markets on the Silver Coast are at Pataias and Santana. They are huge Sunday morning markets where just about everything is sold, from fruit and vegetables through to CDs, clothes and electrical items.

In our closest town, Caldas da Rainha there is a big Monday morning market where you can find local produce like ham, cheese and fruit but also other things like hay, live chickens and shoes.

In Caldas da rainha there are also a daily fruit and vegetable market and a daily fish market.

Once the wedding present of a queen, the preserved medieval town of Óbidos is without doubt one of Portugal's most classic walled settlements. Walking the ramparts, visitors can enjoy views of windmills, vineyards and surrounding farmlands.

Leiria is a growing modern city on the banks of the Liz River. With a hilltop castle, an inviting old quarter, and good transportation links, it is a perfect place for a daytrip.
